Department of Electronic Media

Broadcast journalism is currently at the cutting edge of dissipating news and information, combining the age old profession of journalism andmodern day technology with an increasingly diverse set of job roles. Department of Electronic Media established in the year 1998 exists with the sole role of creating professionals out of electronic media aspirants.

The department initially conducted postgraduate courses i.e. Masters in Broadcast Journalism (M.A.B.J.) and Masters of Science in Electronic Media (M.Sc. E.M.) The department aims to provide exhaustive knowledge of electronic media in teaching and training undergraduate, post graduate as well as research doctoral candidates that support a wide range of career aspirations.

The Department of Electronic Media has a well-equipped computer lab and a state of the art studio to train students on audio and video editing software. There is also a rich library with a collection of latest books and journals on all areas of mass communication. Alumni of this department are placed with top media brands like NDTV, ZEE, AAJTAK and more, in India as well as abroad.

Level: Post Graduate
Duration: 2 years (4 semesters)

Applicants must be graduates in any discipline and should qualify the entrance exam conducted by the university.

About Course:

Masters in Broadcast Journalism is a two year postgraduate programme with a curriculum based on the advanced techniques of broadcast journalism such as radio, television and online broadcast media. The course aims to enable students in understanding the concept of social development through journalism and to develop practical skills in reporting and writing for contemporary broadcast media.

Course objectives:

  • To develop an in-depth understanding of contemporary electronic media industry in students, and empowering them with technical and aesthetic excellence to explore the horizons of electronic media by enabling them with.
  • To develop an understanding of the ethics in news reporting and writing in students.
  • To enable students with effective communication and multi-tasking skills required in the dynamic multi-media and convergent environment.
