Department of New Media Technology

Department of New Media Technology was established in the year 2011 as part of media studies to facilitate and promote the converging technologies in the media and communication sector. Multimedia, Graphics and Animation are shaping these media content. The proliferation of multimedia data and its rich semantics have created a lot of scope for applied field of New Media Technology.

The department offers a postgraduate course M.Sc. (New Media). The curriculum is designed with a very deep understanding of the needs of industry, which has been approved through a logical process of deliberations by the board of studies and academic council of the university.

The department has a core group of committed faculty resources from media, technology and professionals from new media organisations. Experts from the industry extend expertise and knowledge at regular intervals. The department also undertakes interdisciplinary training programmes in the latest areas and trends of new media. It conducts hands-on workshop on in demand technologies like visual design, information and cyber security, fact checking etc regularly. It also has a well-equipped multimedia lab and departmental library.

Many alumni students are working as animators, graphic designers, video editors, research analysts, assistant directors in DQ Entertainment, CRISP Multimedia, and digital platforms of channels like ZEE TV, India TV, ETV, etc.

About the Programme:

The increasing scope of new media in the fast emerging digital world and the new media organisations’ requirement for online media specialists to engage audiences has led to the need for shaping up of this course in media education. The course structure is framed in a way that will provide an environment for students to create, deliver and present contents for online medium.

Course objectives:

  • To instil a sound knowledge and understanding of media language and its iterations on different media platforms.
  • To develop an understanding of current methodology as it is embodied in media and communication practices.
  • To provide hands-on training in interactive multi multimedia design and development through practical modules.
