Radio Karmaveer: The Voice of the Community, A Symbol of Self-Reliance
Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Bhopal, has established Radio Karmaveer with the vision of empowering the social, economic, cultural, and educational development of the local community. The university has secured the necessary broadcasting license from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India for this initiative.
Formally inaugurated on August 15, 2023, Radio Karmaveer is operating under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Shri Vijay Manohar Tiwari. Broadcasting on 90.0 FM frequency, the station airs daily from 11 AM to 1 PM and 4 PM to 6 PM, offering a variety of informative and engaging programs. With a reach of 15 kilometers in all directions, it is positively impacting the lives of the local community.
A Diverse Range of Programs
Radio Karmaveer broadcasts carefully curated programs that cater to different sections of society, including:
Meri Maati, Mera Khet – Insights into agriculture and the rural economy
Hamare Karmaveer – Inspirational stories of local heroes
Meri Sehat – Health, wellness, and lifestyle tips
Guru Mantra – Educational and motivational sessions for students and teachers
Prerna – Encouraging stories and life lessons
Taare Zameen Par – A special program for children and young minds
Career Mantra – Career guidance, mentorship, and skill-building tips
Samvaad – Discussion on pressing community issues
Radio Pathshala – Making education interactive and fun
Baal Sabha – A creative space for children’s voices
Karmyogi – Stories of unsung heroes working for societal progress
Each of these programs is developed with active participation from studens, faculty, and the local community, making Radio Karmaveer a true voice of the people.
Moving Towards Self-Sustainability
Despite being a young initiative, Radio Karmaveer has not only gained popularity but is also advancing towards self-reliance. Recognizing its impact, National Fertilizers Limited (NFL), Vijaypur—a Mini Navratna PSU—has sponsored the program “Meri Maati, Mera Khet.”
Under this sponsorship:
180 episodes were produced and broadcast
A ₹10 lakh contract was successfully executed
In addition, the station is running other socially impactful programs, such as:
Short film production for rural sanitation awareness
Health awareness campaigns under the National Health Mission
These efforts demonstrate how community radio can be a catalyst for social change and development.
A Hands-On Learning Platform for Students
Radio Karmaveer serves as a state-of-the-art media lab for students, providing practical training in:
Audio production
Scriptwriting
Voice modulation
Live broadcasting
A unique aspect of the initiative is that its signature tune and official logo were designed by students, highlighting their deep involvement. This real-world experience in journalism, communication, and media production gives them a competitive edge in the industry.
Expanding Digital and Global Outreach
Radio Karmaveer is not just limited to FM broadcasting—it is actively expanding its reach through digital platforms.
Programs are available in both audio and video formats, ensuring a wider audience.
Content is regularly uploaded on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook, making it accessible to a global audience.
With this dual broadcast approach, the station is ensuring that community-driven content reaches beyond geographical boundaries.
Future Roadmap
To enhance its reach and impact, Radio Karmaveer is working towards:
Extending broadcast hours to reach a larger audience
Setting up an advanced studio with cutting-edge equipment
Strengthening engagement with rural communities
Conducting research on audience impact and reach
Introducing paid internships for students to promote hands-on learning
These initiatives will further establish Radio Karmaveer as a model for community-driven media and student-led broadcasting.
